Section 2:  Resources and Responsibility

Responsibility is defined as a state of being reliable, dependable, accountable, answerable, and trustworthy. Responsibility also involves entering into a contract or an obligation. Our understanding of responsibility by its definition indicates the transfer of something valuable with the implication that the receiver of the trust is to achieve some positive result. Responsibility also embraces self-reliance, effectiveness, faithfulness, and capability. In essence, responsibility is simply the ability to respond, especially to resources

Many people mistakenly believe that the Creator favors the rich and withholds from the poor, but that is not what the Bible teaches. Poor and rich, alike, can experience the same grace and divine love that has been given to us by the Creator. Poverty is not a gift from God but often the result of actions. The degree of wealth or poverty in which you find yourself is to a large extent related to the way you are using what you have. Your success is not determined by what you have, but by what you do with what you have.

It doesn’t matter what your family’s economic situation is - you have the power to change your future. The Creator desires energetic, diligent and faithful people, always seeking those who will look beyond their circumstances to their possibilities.

When you are given resources, you are entrusted to care for them, cultivate them, and work with them. Resources come with responsibility, and responsibility demands effort.  The release of your potential is directly linked  to your understanding of the purpose of your resources, your knowledge of how they operate, your obedience to the laws that govern them, and your willingness to open yourself and tap into their limitless potential.

If you learn what your resources are and how they were designed to operate, you will be able to accomplish feats never imagined. It is important to remember, your resources are divine gifts. Indeed, they are made to be used, however, they are given for you to live on, and not for. They can never replace the Ultimate Source of everything good that comes into our lives. Likewise, we must be able to make the distinction between Source, and re-source. When the lines blur and we start living for money, we can find ourselves in trouble. When our jobs become the most important thing in our lives, we are essentially creating a chain of events for us to be reminded of the distinction of the power and substance found in our Ultimate Source. When a resource becomes more important than the purpose for which God gave it, it is subject to abuse.
