Section 2: Fellowship with The True Vine
Fellowship with the Creator is not transactional but transformational, sustaining your potential and guiding your growth.
We are designed to be in fellowship with our Creator. Realizing your potential requires a constant flow of energy from the Source. Imagine expecting a lamp that is without solar or batteries or not plugged into a socket to illuminate. Think about how you would never expect something that requires an energy source, to be able to power itself. Why should this ever be the case with people? Yet unlike the lamp, The Creator’s essence is already within you, therefore you have some power already inside of you. However that power needs to be continuously regenerated.
To realize your full potential you need to remain connected to the True Vine. This does not mean you should pursue Your Creator transactionally. Instead, you should pursue connection with your Creator in all things; the way you think, eat, drink or breathe. It also does not mean you should pursue this connection solely for a desired outcome, rather pursuing your Creator because you understand that it is an absolute necessity attached to the fiber of your being.
In John 15:1, Jesus calls himself the true vine. The word vine here means “source of life.” Like the grape vine is a source of sustenance for its branches, The Creator is your source of life. There are a lot of other vines that one could get hooked into: education, philosophy, science, politics, even religion. The true vine allows for us to be renewed and flourish. The other vines may provide temporary sustenance but they can also pull or distract us from our relationship with the True Vine. In these cases, pruning is necessary to remain connected to The Source.
In Scripture, our Creator is described as our gardener. A gardener works in the vineyard trying to bring as much life as possible out of the vines. The Manufacturer comes into your life and starts clipping away the poor habits that are hanging on and the attitudes that are killing you. The Gardener cuts off those things that He knows is holding you back, because He knows you are not living up to what is truly possible for you. He knows that there is so much more in your roots because He is the source of your potential.
Think about your life right now. Are there some old leaves in your life that are drowning and choking your potential? Are there habits that you have been holding onto for five, ten or fifteen years? Are you wasting your time planning, setting up, committing and feeling guilty about sin? How many hours in a day are you losing to disobedience and rebellion? The way to prune your life and to unlock your potential is through discipline, obedience and a deep nurturing connection to your Creator.
