Section 4: Releasing Your Power Fulfills Your Potential

Scientists in the field of human potential have estimated that we use as little as ten percent of our abilities. Ninety percent of our capacities lie dormant and wasted. This vast capacity for potential was designed to support our infinite potential.

One reason we fail to progress on realizing our potential and fulfilling our purpose is satisfaction with our present (or past) measure of success, or that we become complacent and unmotivated, paralyzed by feelings of inadequacy or overwhelmed by the high expectations we place on ourselves. Often these expectations are the poison of comparison and/or externally or self-imposed pressures to live into someone else’s timeline or mimic someone else’s purpose and calling. Yet, we were each afforded the unique treasure out of our own special gifts, potential and purpose.  Therefore, as long as we covet the lives of others, we waste precious time and energy,  and deny ourselves true fulfillment.

Another threat to realizing our potential is impatience and/or the desire to take short-cuts. When we don’t wait on Divine timing and will, we become susceptible to detrimental shortcuts or permissive counterfeit replacements. Shortcuts and counterfeits negate potential. You will never know what you can do, if you attempt to obtain it through a shortcut. Shortcuts destroy the divine possibilities that were planted within you causing you to live into the permissive will, instead of Divine will. Taking short-cuts sells you short of the full promise, your full potential and fulfillment of your purpose.

Anything less than maximum, or your best, is mediocrity. You were not designed to be just your average joe, living with the spirit of average, pledging allegiance to the anthem of the norm with your hands cupped over a heartbeat of ordinary. We were created to be above average and extraordinary. The 90% unused brain capacity is proof that we are capable of more than we give ourselves credit for.

This is not a call to chase lofty goals or to live a life of burnout, these things are usually rooted in comparison and feelings of inadequacy. Rather, this is a call to root your efforts in confidence, faith and a spirit of excellence. Technically, to be exceptional, when you are disciplined and faithful you are only doing a little extra. For example, most of us respond to life creatively, innovatively and with great faith when circumstances demand that response or we feel pressure. This is because necessity is the mother of invention. The goal is for us to realize the truth that unlocking our true potential and fulfilling the purpose for which we are born is a necessity.

Have you ever noticed the deep peace and contentment that comes over you when you fulfill a responsibility? Nothing is more rewarding and personally satisfying than the successful completion of an assigned task. An old Chinese proverb says: “ The end of a thing is greater than its beginning.”

What counts is not how much a person starts, but how much he or she finishes. The race is not to the swift, but to him that endures to the end. In this vein, we are drawing towards the end of this course with one and a half modules to go, now is the time to submit your Final Action Plan and Potential Declaration
