Section 3: Service is A Powerful Gift
Many people seek leadership positions and power as a status symbol. However, status without purpose is akin to a position without authority. Just as purpose is dwelling on the inside of you, alongside purpose is a battle between ambition and fulfillment. Ambition is the desire to get ahead in this world. While ambition motivates one to ascend in status and position, it is important to recognize that positions of authority are not given for personal gain but for the benefit of all.
Therefore, true status is granted and it comes with great responsibility. Jesus said “Whosoever is great among you, let him be your servant.” (Mark 10:43) Position and status comes with the responsibility of service to others through a servant's heart. Yet, it is important to understand that Our Creator, the Manufacturer of our purpose and potential, does not measure value by visible/hierarchical positions of authority.
Each individual has a specific role within the grand design of the world, playing a specific part with their unique gifts and talents in the overarching plan. Each role has its significance and value, and plays a part in the orchestra of creation. Many people have struggled with wanting or trying to live into someone else’s purpose. Remember your unique character, nature, gifts and position are specially designed to fulfill whatever task the Creator purposed for you.
Frustration often arises when we attempt roles for which we are not suited, or to fill these roles before the appointed time. Failure to achieve what we are uniquely designed for can lead to feelings of dissatisfaction. Effective teamwork relies on everyone playing their appropriate part, in the appointed season. Fulfilling your true purpose is not about ambitious overreach but about aligning with your intrinsic design through understanding and communication with Your Creator. This alignment reveals that “nearly” right timing, or being in the wrong place or with the wrong people, can all lead to missteps.
True adherence, or obedience, in the context of our purpose, doesn’t consist of following the prescribed do’s and don’ts. It involves doing the right thing in the right place at the right time. When you deviate from this alignment, you hurt yourself and others because violation of status always causes chaos and destruction. Obedience is simply the adherence to the principles of the Manufacturer.
Always remember that obedience is far greater than sacrifice (1 Samuel 15:22)
