Section 2: Time & Your Purpose
Purpose and time are intertwined; beauty and fulfillment emerge in their appointed season. Living purposefully means navigating both the measured moments of Kronos and the impactful opportunities of Kairos.
“He has made everything beautiful in its time. He had also set eternity in the hearts of men; yet they cannot fathom what God has done from beginning to end.” (Ecclesiastes 3:11)
Time grants every aspect of creation its moment of beauty, and in the moments it chooses, everything achieves its peak. Together, time and purpose reveal profound depths of beauty that go beyond superficial appearances, contrasting sharply with the often shallow perceptions held by humanity. Beauty, in its truest form, is realized through the maturation of purpose over time. Just as a rose reaches its most splendid state at full bloom, humanity too shows its greatest beauty at the pinnacle of its collective progress and potential.
Time has limits. We were given time and hired by The Creator for a specific time because time is determined. The natural cycle of life progresses from birth towards this peak of fulfillment and eventually leads to decline. Inherent in all creation is the capacity to reach completeness, fulfillment, and ultimate beauty within the allotted time.
Consequently, the duration of our physical lives is intertwined with our purpose, suggesting that some purposes require a lifetime—and perhaps beyond—to fully manifest. We can come to fulfillment from beyond the grave through legacy.
This perspective implies that creation, including humanity, is meant to operate with an awareness of both time and eternity. The original intent for humanity, as well as its ongoing destiny, involves a vision that spans forever, encouraging a legacy-driven life underpinned by a clear, purposeful direction.
Kronos (Chronos) v Kairos
There is even more nuance in understanding the significance of Finite Time & Infinite Time.
Time (finite) is measured time also known as Kronos is quantitative time. This type of time, while essential for daily human activities and management, is considered of little consequence from an eternal perspective. Kronos serves as an aide to human beings to manage, cope with and redeem time.
On the other hand, Kairos is qualitative time which is measured by moments (not seconds,) impact and significance (the appointed time.) It is this type of time that is believed to hold true value. Kairos time is how moments are evaluated from an eternal perspective. Recognizing the 'right time' or the 'appointed time' for actions (especially those that fulfill divine or life purposes) requires a disciplined approach to both prepare and pursue these opportunities, regardless of how long it takes.
Understanding and applying the concept of Kairos to the pursuit of purpose also demands patience and an awareness that both our purpose and the eternal nature of time are intertwined. This perspective encourages a mindfulness that transcends our everyday experiences and connects us to a more profound, purposeful existence.
