Section 2: Freedom Requires Responsibility

Your purpose requires freedom and freedom requires responsibility. Many perceive freedom as free reign to do whatever one desires or feels. Yet, freedom, like the kingdom, calls forth dominion and true dominion is more than domination, instead it is the responsibility to protect, develop and maintain. Free reign contradicts freedom because when someone has free reign there is no guarantee that they will be trustworthy, reliable or dependable. Whereas, responsibility and freedom  demands all of these.

Responsibility is defined as a state of being reliable, dependable, accountable, answerable, and trustworthy. Responsibility also involves entering into a contract or an obligation. Our understanding of responsibility by its definition indicates the transfer of something valuable with the implication that the receiver of the trust is to achieve some positive result. Responsibility also embraces self-reliance, effectiveness, faithfulness, and capability. In essence, responsibility is simply the ability to respond, especially to resources. Freedom is the ability to realize each of these things and you cannot realize or manage them without responsibility.

The Garden of Eden is known as the time in human history with the most freedom. When the Creator created the earth and placed man in the garden, He did not give man a finished product. Instead he gave a responsibility to mankind to “Be fruitful, and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it” (Genesis 1:28) Rather than filling the earth with people at the start of creation, the Creator created beings with the potential to multiply, and fill the earth. The potential of each seed in the garden became the responsibility of mankind to unlock and release. This requires time, effort, and responsibility. Remember nothing purposeful in life is instant or immediate.

Ability is placed on the inside of each of us, but it  must be cultivated, with an attitude of responsibility to release potential. Remember, God does not give you the responsibility without also giving you the ability. To fulfill your purpose you must have a mindset of freedom which can only be cultivated by an attitude of responsibility.
