Section 4: Freedom & Fulfillment for All

As we learned in prior units, true freedom and fulfillment are possible only as you discover and understand your personal purpose. This can only happen if you transform your mind and your thinking. Most central to transforming your thinking is the need to declare independence from the expectations and opinions of others. This declaration of independence is especially important for those who have been subjected to oppression, rejection, colonization or any form of marginalization. While people in any community the world over may identify with this reality, it is particularly true for those who live in nations that were once colonized, robbed or oppressed.

This need also extends to those whose people or communities have also experienced the injustices of oppression as a whole. Many of us, on an individual level, have also experienced mental subjugation at the hands of parents, guardians or others that we have assigned high value and trust to in our lives. Unfortunately, many of us are not even aware how the trauma of generational pain and various forms of oppression can impact our day to day thinking and being.

Therefore, to deliver ourselves from depression, despair, anxiety and emptiness, we must realize that a standard of success established by an oppressor only results in a poor self-concept and low self-esteem. If we believe that others hold the key to our success and fulfillment, then we will live to please others and to fulfill their expectations. We must also trust and know that possessions, fame, status and power cannot be a replacement for a personal realization of purpose and significance. We must declare mental and personal independence to reclaim inner peace, dignity, self-worth and sense of well-being, and restore freedom in our lives to pursue our true purpose. We must become masters of our own being and becoming, and choose to trust the promises our Manufacturer made to each of us.

The journey of mental freedom requires the understanding and acceptance that every person has a unique purpose, and therefore, comparison is not possible. How can you compare yourself to someone who cannot substitute you? Thus, true mental freedom  means liberating oneself from jealousy and envy, as well as freedom from desperate attempts to achieve “success” or recognition at the expense of others. The Creator’s purpose for your life is your truest identity. You must discover your true identity to master your life and claim your freedom so that you have the power to unleash your true purpose.Yet, central to seeing and understanding truth is submission to the One who created you. You are not being called to be religious, only to re-establish an intimate relationship with  the One that can give you the resources to move from emptiness and oppression to personal satisfaction and freedom.
