Section 4: Settling for a Job is a Great Tragedy
In Module 3 and Module 5, we learned the differences between your job and your work. Your job is simply what you do for a paycheck. Whereas your work is a gift from Your Creator for the fulfillment of your divine purpose. Many people settle into a job that does not activate or make demands on their gifts, nor work toward the fulfillment of their purpose and the realization of their potential. This leads to a life of misery. Your job (which you have to buy food to keep you alive)could actually be spiritually killing you, by killing your purpose.
Therefore, it is a matter of life or death that you find your work, or find work on your job. In module 5, we learned that it is possible to find your work on your job, but what does this look like in practice?
Well, it looks like deploying your gifts, talents and the essence of your purpose in the job that you are doing right now. For example, if you are currently a student who has the gift of strategic vision and problem solving you might find yourself making work at school through joining the student government or leading the charge and being the steward of an initiative that solves a problem in the classroom, the school or the wider community.
Or maybe you are in a job where you feel that you have hit a plateau, yet you have a keen ability to motivate and inspire others and you also have a passion for healthy living so you design a group healthy living/better me challenge your colleagues. Such steps to finding work and purpose in the place you are right now may seem simple or even trivial, but everything starts with an initial step. Remember, to complete a journey of a thousand miles you have to take the first step.
Another way to find work in the place that you are in is through volunteership. Volunteering is one of the most essential steps that you can take in refining your gift and living into your purpose. What areas are your gifts in? What element of your purpose could use further development? It is in these areas that you should find opportunities to volunteer and give your gifts away.
Lastly, on the journey to the full discovery of your purpose, and the realization and release of your potential, it is important to have a mentor. Mentorship affords you the opportunity to sharpen your skills, your focus and your understanding. It is important that you choose your mentor well. Has this person done what you are seeking to do? Or do they have a skillset that you know you need to build on? Whatever it is, just remember that mentorship is a major key in unlocking your potential and discovering your purpose.
Please remember not to limit yourself to the careers or fields that the world has determined as worthy to do your work. There are many areas of society that require the mindset and skills of a kingdom driven individual such as yourself. Reflect on the areas presented in the video and the list below and think about how you may be able to apply your donation (your purpose and potential) to that particular area of society by doing the work that you are divinely called to.
